UAV Toolbox - The Next Generation

If you buy now, the same features will remain unlocked when the new release comes out, and some new features will be added. I'm not about to make people 're-buy' the tool they've already got.

The online tools in the new release will include things like hosting and sharing video and telemetry. If you don't want to use them, the base price is all you need pay. If you do have high use needs, or want to use some more specialist tools, there will be a subscription for those parts.

Thanks.

After reading this thread, I installed the app and paid the fee immediately upon seeing what this app can do. It's awesome!

Here's a quick update on what's happening with UAV Toolbox.

The next release includes two very big features, and the foundations for some major developments going on. Getting this stuff right takes a little time, which is why I've been relatively quiet. However, we're getting close, so here's what to expect.

The first new feature is equipment management. This allows you to track what you flew and when - you can identify the batteries you fly with, and for professional users, which drone, camera or controller you used for each flight. The equipment database allows you to track how batteries are performing, and later it will be possible to get stats on typical lifespans, expected flight times and the difference between manufacturers.

The second feature is online share and sync. Flight summaries will now identify what photos and video you took, your route and all of the current stats on flight time, radio signal, distance and so on. You will be able to upload these to the UAV Toolbox website where you can share them and review flights along with Google Maps and synchronized photos and video. It makes a world of difference to be able to show people a flight on a big screen, and to be able to see where you were when a particular image was captured.

Online sync is a big deal - this opens up all sorts of features, such as editing missions on your PC and having them automatically available on your ST-16, being able to share missions between controllers and being able to generate reports and presentations for clients and friends. There has been some discussion lately about planning grids for survey missions, and this is how I can deliver a truly powerful tool for professional use.

There are a few other tweaks and changes that hopefully will make it to this release, but I'll announce those later on.

Now, in order to make this all possible the price of the app is going to go up a small amount. This weekend is probably going to be the last chance to get it at the current price, so don't miss out. If you want to help me pay my bills, give it a few days :) All of the current users will be able to upgrade without paying any more. However for all users who wish to use the online services, I will need to charge a fee to cover ongoing server costs - hosting gigabytes of photos and videos online is not free. When these facilities are fully online, I'll share some more about how that might work.

In the short term, the upgrade may mean the registration server is offline for a few short periods. Check the website for any service reports. I'll be sharing early builds with a few beta testers over the next few days - drop me a message if you're interested. The final release should be coming out around the end of the month. It's going to be fantastic!
Tuna, just downloaded UAV Toolbox and love it. Quick question: I can view telemetry files of the last 100 missions on my ST16 and/or my PC, but I haven't figured out how to load one of these files into the Mission Editor. I'd like to be able to manually fly an approximate route, then load it into Mission Editor to fine tune the route and adjust the camera angles. How to do this, please?

Hey Tuna, for the high use needs, or want to use some more specialist tools, there will be a subscription for those parts.

I am all in just tell me when , how much etc

Thanks

Also Tuna, I know you and I have talked about it in the past, when you have time or have someone help you out, a step by step video on how to use ALL the options that you have created would be extremely helpful to everyone I believe. Seeing is of course a great and fast way to learn. Hope it can be done. Thanks again my friend for all your hard a dedicated work on this.

At the moment, there is no tool to do that, but it's something that has come up a few times and I plan to add it. The next release will be all about mapping, so if I get a good response to the version I'm just about to put out, then I should be able to add that feature shortly.

That's also high on my list, but I'm working all hours getting the next bit of software out.

I'm happy to help by putting a video together. Just wouldn't be able to get to this for another few weeks - would that work?

I think any on going videos showing the operational use of the tool box would very helpful to a lot of people, anytime

Am using my preview download of UAV Toolbox, have not decided if full version is going to work for me.
I am concerned that this forum thread has had no activity since 4/2017. Is this product not being developed further?
I would much rather see Google Maps being used, much better quality than bing.
Should I be going to another thread for more current information?

@Tuna developed it and is on this site. There have been other conversations here on UAV Toolkit.

Ping Tuna or search around here for a more up to date thread.

Yup, you can't get rid of me :)

I'm still maintaining the app, but like a lot of people on here, I've been waiting to see what Yuneec do with the H Plus before committing to any big changes. For H520 owners, I've been adding telemetry support to the website.

Though the app version hasn't changed, the online flight logs received a major upgrade earlier this year, with weather reports and address lookup, as well as a downloadable flight log for people who need to submit flights to various authorities. The app is undergoing some minor changes in the background, but I'm not sure when the next release will come out.

With regards to Bing and Google maps, this is a practical issue - to provide Google maps requires me to take out a commercial license that I would have to pass on as a subscription cost to app users (something I've avoided to date). Yuneec hide this cost when you buy the drone, but as a third party developer, I can't rely on 'other sales' to make up the fees. As with things like grid mapping, this is simply a commercial issue - I know roughly how much Yuneec paid to get DataPilot developed for the H520 and I'm pretty certain there aren't enough Typhoon H owners interested in a third party mapping app to cover the development costs. That doesn't mean it's not going to happen - just that it's not a business priority at the moment.

As it is, UAV Toolbox covers quite a few bases and 'does the job'. If it doesn't suit you - don't buy it. The preview is there so you can make the decision whether eighteen bucks is worth it or not. I strongly encourage people to buy things (both my software and drones) for what they do now, rather than waiting on some promise of what they might do in the future. If it's not something you need, I'm not going to force you into a purchase.

Happy flying!

Money well spent in my humble opinion @Tuna
I've been using the app since it was first 'conceived' and gladly paid the cash when it was developed further.

can you map with uav toolbox on the H like you can with dronedeploy on DJI ?

Not currently, no... Tuna mentioned above that he is waiting on the H+ release and to see it's capabilities, before continuing development on UAV Toolbox. Given the current numbers Tuna sees on the H, he has no reason to adopt a philosophy of "if he builds it, they will come", in regards to a mapping app... whether a integral part of a future update or a standalone add-on.

Unfortunately, since DroneDeploy probably agreed to an exclusivity clause with DJI, no version of DD for Yuneec is forthcoming. It's very frustrating since a decent app paired with the inherent rock steadiness of the H would likely yield superior results, without having to further invest in another AC.
