I have a red and green one on my H on the bottom of the front motor pods right behind the motors and a white one on the top right ahead of the GPS dome and I can see them in the daylight when the drone is ready to be out of line of sight. they work great and are really bright at night.

Carolina Dronz sells a stand alone strobe in red white or green and it has its own battery and last for 5 hours on a single charge. You can mount them where ever you want with Velcro or double side tape. here is the link Strobon UAV Strobe Light for your UAV Drone

Quick question. If I have never updated the firmware on my H and St16 (I got it in March or April 2016) will I still be able to jump right to the newest firmware without any issues?

Yes my arms were tight on the sides when it slid down into the case so I took a heat gun and heated up the sides enough to create a slight bulge where each motor button rubbed you don't need much of a bulge to make it fit like 1/8th of an inch on each side.
