JRremotePilot

I am new to UAS. Earned my Private Pilot privileges in 2014 and Remote pilot certificate in 2017 through AOPA / FAA Safety.

I have dabbled in RC aircraft early in life. As a teen ager in 1972, my single channel 049 cox powered trainer took off beautifully but soon had loss of radio control. I watched my first aircraft gently and stably rise across a farm field then upon running out of fuel gracefully crash into a huge oak tree. Picked up the pieces and gave up as the money was spent..

1999.. Built another trainer with 5 channels while working near Detroit. Weight and balanced checked by an experienced RC modeler. Engine broke in on bench test ready to go. Didn't have the money or time to join a club after we moved to Iowa so model sat in basement until 2012 when I donated the plane to our church youth fund raiser. (still have the narrow band radio but its obsolete)

2017: Now I have researched many UAS and have decided on a Typhoon H. Looking to shape this into a small business tool along with my technical video experience at my current employer of 27 years.

I have been employed for 35 years in mechanical design, engineering project management and the last five years in an R&D group measuring customer loyalty, focus groups and filming Agricultural and Construction vehicle operations using multiple in-cab action cameras and external cameras. My supervisor has a drone so for one shoot I incorporated his casual recreational drone images into the final internal use company report.

Now that part 107 is in place gaining a Remote Pilot certificate was a cost effective progression for me and I plan to use it with my technical video experience to start my own small business. I am using the Strategyzer business model process but need the flight experience to be marketable. Been practicing with a small manual drone in my garage during the winter. I live in Class E airspace so am waiting for and full size UAS before applying for a waver.

I have learned a lot from this forum and hope to contribute. I briefly talked to a technical service person at Yuneec yesterday and she was very helpful and kind with my non-owner questions. My experience with her and this forum has shaped my decision point to purchase a Typhoon H. I will be tracking down and placing my H purchase this morning.
