Whilst disattaching my camera i noticed the mount was fixed to the gimbal by only two fixings! Is this normal? Please see photos and excuse my lack of jargon.

Yep, they are only there to prevent the camera falling off its rubber mounts in the event of a hard landing, and you don't want more than 2 of them because every point of physical contact between top and bottom platforms risks vibrations being passed down to the camera. In an ideal world you wouldn't need or use any retaining pins at all, but the 2 loose-fitting ones provided are a decent compromise.
I would at some point get a set of spare dampers and pins. I have popped em out just removing the camera and setting it aside.
