With my Q5004K I understand how to do a Compass Calibration. What I don't understand is how the Drone uses Compass information? It seems that its primary reference is the GPS. So how does it use Compass information. I have flown the Q several times without a problem before I calibrated my Compass so it
does not seem to be critical. Still trying to understand how these machines work!!

Compass (magnetometer)
The compass sensor, or magnetometer if you want to sound fancy, measures the magnetic force, just like a compass. This sensor is important for multi rotor drones because the accelerometer and gyroscope sensors are not enough to let the flight controller know what direction the drone is facing. On fixed wing drones this easy since it can only fly in one direction.

If you ever plan to map the telemetry data onto your flight videos, via Dashware for example, the telemetry compass info won't read right if it's not correctly calibrated(?)
