downloading video as a file

When I plug my card reader into my laptop it will play whatever is on the card. When I download to a file what is on the card my computer breaks things up into 5 minute segments. What can I do to download all of the contents off the card as a single file? Thanks

Put all clips on a video editor timeline and make a new file/clip. ...I have to do this when uploading long clips to YouTube or when making dvds.
