Newbie here. Is there any difference with the typhoon h and typhoon h with Intel? On the Yuneec website it seems to be the same thing...

Hello and welcome, thewesfob. A standard Typhoon H has a built in obstacle avoidance system using ultra-sonic sensors. A Typhoon H with intel probably refers to the addition of the Intel RealSense module which is an add-on that provides more sophisticated obstacle mapping and avoidance and is useful for follow-me modes when it will attempt to find a route around any obstacles such as trees to be able to follow you. Search the forum for RealSense for more info.

Do you feel you need Realsense? I would do more research before getting a Realsense H, much better to rely on your skills than copters, it builds your abilities and confidence. Realsense can only to do so much and there are still vulnerable areas of the H that could cause a crash. I believe that's vast majority on here don't use it and regard it as a gimmick.

A good few pilots have crashed their TH through putting too much faith in their RealSence module's abilities in obstacle avoidance. Deliberately walking near to trees in follow me believing that their aircraft will avoid said trees only to see their aircraft plummeting to earth in a crumpled heap having still managed to fly into the branches.

RealSence works reasonably well...quite well, in fact, given most situations. But the key word here is 'most'. It has difficulty in detecting objects with a small diameter like twigs and thin branches. It also has some problems if the sun is in the 'wrong' position in the sky.

Bottom line is that RealSence works well if conditions and surroundings are in it's favor and will mostly help the inattentive pilot to avoid a crash, but it can't top a skilled pilot's ability to avoid crashing his aircraft. RealSence should not be relied upon to avoid crashing. It helps, but that's just it...it helps. It's not foolproof.

Intel means the Real Sense module. Both versions maintain the same basic H-480 platform foundation. So if you bought an H, simply installing the Real Sense module would change it to the Intel version.

There’s a lot of different names being used to make one or another sound more enticing, along with higher pricing, but in truth they all start out as the same aircraft, with only minor changes in bolt on equipment or added accessories like extra batteries used to glorify the product name.

I agree with the other guy, think hard about the need or frequency of use for the Real Sense/Intel module. Most that bought it never use it.

Buy the cheaper H. Then use the money saved to buy a decent 3rd party charger, that'll give a better return in the long run!

Common sense says forget about the RealSense module. I got it already installed on my second hand Copter but it's simply acknowledged as some sort of high tech ballast. I played around a little bit to see the capability of the system and got frustrated pretty soon. In a "controlled" surrounding with optimal conditions it might work quite well, but in real life it get's stuck by nearly anything - "uggh, a branch, omg a fence, wtf, ah, just a shadow..." Watching it trying to get around/over a hedge for 15 minutes left me somewhere between laughing and crying ?. There's a lot to do, to give the system the label "situational awareness" or "autonomous problem solving".

Another annoying fact about realsense is that it slows the H down as if you were in slow motion especially forward speed

I have RealSense on one of my two TH480. The thought was it would save me from own stupidity. It never did. It didn't save the TH when it had a flyaway either. I don't fly indoors so IMHO it was a waste of money.

Normally, when you command the H to go forward or back or left or right it does these while the nose keeps pointing in the same direction. With RealSense activated the H first turns to face the direction commanded before proceeding. I haven't checked this out but it seems that with the camera in Global mode and pointing in a direction different from the direction of flight RealSense could prevent a collision.
I was flying over a field that had a post in it I was intending to fly toward the post and see what the H did as it approached the post. The H was about 6 feet above the ground and seemed to slow down and hesitate at various times. When I reviewed the video it seems that the slowdowns were due to some spindly weeds that I couldn't see from my position but the RealSense detected.

The change of direction I mentioned only applies to Smart Mode. I've never had an occasion to use "Follow me" so I'm not sure about how Real Sense behaves with regard to the Mode switch settings.
