Kind of surprised no one is talking about the new FAA authorization bill introduced in the House on April 13. It keeps Sec. 336 pretty much intact, but adds an additional requirement to stay away from amusement parks (thank you Disney), and further clarifies the definition a CBO so that only the AMA qualifies.
It also adds a micro UAS rule, basically just a slightly slimmed down version of Part 107 with a different test. There are several amendments to HR4 to address 336 that will allow the FAA to regulate. Please keep in mind that this is the House bill. There will also be a Senate bill - possibly at the end of the summer, or else after the election. Then the two bills have to be reconciled, both the House and the Senate have to agree and then it goes to the president for signature. After that most of the new things will take 180-365 days to study and then report back to Congress. FAA rulemaking takes even longer.
