This directly affects PArt 107 holders...

"The FAA has been swamped with requests from Part 107 drone pilots seeking to navigate controlled airspace, and reports of drone safety incidents have also surged. Believing that frustrated drone pilots are flying near airports without waiting for airspace authorization, the agency has sought “emergency” clearance to quickly implement electronic authorization."

It's refreshing to see the FAA actually move quickly on a needed process. Even more impressive since it pertains to UAV's. It will be interesting to see if the incident reports decline following the implementation. It's entirely possible that Part 107 holders are only part of the reported incidents.

I applied for a waiver 4 weeks ago here in Orlando, FL. received a reply October 12th from the FAA stating:

"Unfortunately, a substantial update is not available for your request. It is currently in the queue of applications being processed. At the moment, we do not have a time-frame of when it will be completed. Due to the volume of applications received, it is taking longer than 90 days to provide a response but we are processing applications as quickly as possible to improve the wait time".

Kind Regards,

I lost a $600.00 gig because of this. The company needed the video shots before Christmas.
