Is anyone on here doing this? My bro just got hired to manage a good amount of large sand and gravel pits, he asked me if I could use my drone to to keep track of inventories. I’ve never thought about it, or even heard of it being done. I guess I’m going to jump into researching it but wanted to know if anyone has take on this task before? Can it be done without any special cameras? Just point and shoot, then go back and measure on the computer using that big ole brain of mine?

Curious to hear people’s experiences, nothing comes up in search for volume measuring.

I'm guessing everything would be a questimate seeing theres no real way to physically measure it.

If your really good at trig, you can do it from a regular photo, but it's very time consuming. It's much simpler to use a LIDAR unit. The are sUAS equipped with this. They are expensive. Your getting into engineering stuff.
