how many coppers ( police) does it take to fly a drone

That looks like a Mantis Q. Any idea of what they were actually flying?

looks like the crowd is the coppers lol a winters Weymouth seafront that`s probably the most coppers i have seen there all year

See, flying drones brings people together. I can’t understand why people freak out over them. It it were Law Enforcement Officers in the US it would be a box of donuts and thermos of coffee that had that many in one spot.;)

Well, first off, they're obviously undercover officers. That's plain to see!!!
They are on the hunt for illegal immigrants coming in from France
Or, maybe they're waiting for Macron to arrive, escaping from the rioting hordes
They appear to be breaking several laws whilst so doing
Maybe you could offer to help them trek, they don't really seem to know what they are doing.
Low crime in your neighborhood????????? That must be the entire Weymouth force

They are following well established military protocols. You have the operator, the pilot in command that commands the operator, the payload operator, the ISR specialist, the team safety coordinator, and the spotter. Not seen are the communications specialist, unit commander, and three sergeants always on hand to relay order to lower ranks to perform physical work. The three sergeants spend most of their time debating over who achieved rank first to last to establish which one will have to carry out the order. Low man on the totem pole rule.

It would be the same if they were flying a hand tossed paper airplane.

Aint that the truth.
Long live bureaucracy and the chain of command:D
They would probably have to undergo a month long intensive course on paper plane aerodynamics
That's why they're using a drone...no training required!!!!

What about the wage bill? That must be the full compliment of officers for shift, Anarchy in the Town centre and suburbs!

I bet they confiscated this off some poor kid and now they're using it to teach themselves how to fly it
I like the way you called it "Weymouth see front" Trecker :D

Ah, right. Still, although they (would probably?) have control of the Royal Hotel, I doubt very much that they contacted the amusement arcade or the bar either side to ask permission to conduct their drone operation. Also, I didn't see any cordon erected, though that could be what the other rozzers were for? Didn't notice any of the other rozzers stopping the traffic (at least not in that picture) along the sea front. Ah well, the whole thing will be on CCTV, there's a camera on a post right opposite the Royal Hotel! Big brother IS watching you, even the rozzers:D

haha loving the comments
@Ren57 tell me about it they think they have special powers but they really only have the same as us.

You might want to review the way drone and aviation laws have been written. During the process you might find they do have more “special powers” we are excluded from having. In the U.S. a great many laws, including those related to privacy, and surveillance have undefined exclusions and loopholes added to them to exempt law enforcement and government agencies.

An example is shooting video of a police officer performing his duties. The Supreme Court has ruled this to be legal for a member of the general population using a cell phone or other hand held capture device but the FAA made a clear statement they will prosecute people using a drone for the same purpose.

Another instance of preferential treatment is the ability of a law enforcement or government agency to be provided a CoA in a matter of minutes anywhere in the country. Outside of the recent LAANC process for near airport operations the average citizen would never be able to achieve such a grant.

One more is the manner in which multi-spectral and thermal imagery is used. LEA’s routinely use them to “see” inside homes without obtaining search warrants. If you or I were discovered to be doing similar we would be arrested and prosecuted.

In California it is illegal to fly over private property and film people in their yards. Law enforcement is exempt from such restriction. A person flying a drone without a camera can be prosecuted under one law while LEA’s can use very high resolution cameras anywhere they desire.

Government makes it a point to restrict the public while leaving the doors open for them to do as they please.

You may well be correct. It's another case of one rule for them and another rule for the rest of us. Nice to see my tax £'s are going towards the rozzers playing with drones though!
