Shooting in the rain?

We have finally got some much needed winter rains and mountain snow. Last week I did a flight at 2am in a misty light rain. The streets were gorgeous with the light diffusion from the wet roads. Hollywood and TV commercials know this trick well. I flew my original 480 for this flight. The shell was wet and I got a water drop on the lens - which added to the flares and other worldly feel of the video- but no problems at all. Anyone else try flying in rain? I would think snow would be awesome as I know fog is really fun also. I’d think any weather that makes for light differences would be great and I’m getting lumi cubes now to illuminate the foreground and see what that does.

I often like shooting in such conditions with my weather resistant Fuji X-T2 camera which can also take 4K video but I've never used my TH480 in these conditions. It seems like tempting fate with the drone.

Falling snow works out fine when it’s cold enough to keep it dry but rain is a bit more than I’m willing to risk. I can certainly understand the lighting benefits of it though.

Well since I’ve now got 4 480s, I guess I’m willing to risk one especially the one that’s shows compass warnings but never misbehaves. I’ve tried everything imaginable to get it to stop. I fly it no GPS mostly because the warnings are annoying. Usually after a few minutes they stop but pop up again during landing. It never drifts or toilet bowls however but since the screen keeps getting covered by the warnings, it’s become my whatever drone that I don’t expect anything from and I fly VLOS and ignore the screen. I fly it like I did before I was too obsessed with what it’s seeing and fly more for watching it move through the air. It’s more fun to find the surprises in the video later like a passing train or the wet streets.

CC..
I have flown in a light mist a couple of times, not intentionally.
Low cloud cover and did not think that it was raining until I saw the video.
Snow...light snow fall with a bright blue sky that I thought would look nice, but on all occasions the
moisture drops on the lens made the video unusable, so no more !
This is one of the reasons I think the drone manufacturers don't pursue rain resistant drones.
It is not like NASCAR on car cameras that can swipe clean a dirty lens.

I would like to see the video you got tho !

I have seen several reports from other pilots who use this for waterproofing the motors and electronics and even the camera. Dries and leaves no residue. WD-40 SPECIALIST 300012 Specialist Silicone Lubricant, 11 Oz. | eBay
