ST16 OBS Avoid Switch Confusion

Help me understand this switch. I've read the v1.2 manual and it's not specific enough for me. OBS is clearly *off* if the switch is pushed fully away from the operator. But is the switch *ON* in the center position or when flipped closest to the operator/pilot?

Why is this a 3 position switch? Does the center detent mean or do something in one mode but act differently and needs flipped closer to the operator for something?

Two positions work, high and low. Why use a 3 position switch? Perhaps because there's only 1 two position switch on the -16 and they don't want to buy too many of them.

Center is also OFF, in other words. Perhaps they will use that soon.

Perhaps we should mention the switch for gimbal elevation works the same way. It's a three position switch where only the upper and lower positions are used.
