What kind of preventative maintenance should the Q500 motors get?
I have a Typhoon H hexacopter, and when I try to take off, I get a motor error and there’s a loud rattling sound, like something is lodged in one of the motors. If I take the propellers off and power up, the noise continues, so I put an ear up to each motor and try to determine where it’s coming from. I thought I had it isolated, so I dismantled the end of the arm to get at the motor. I found nothing and put it all back together and the noise and motor error doesn’t go away.
The drone doesn’t shut down any of the motors— if it did, I’d know which motor to repair or replace.
My first thought was that some metallic foreign object got into one of the motors and was rattling around. You might think that it would be easy to figure out which motor is causing the problem, but the rattling seems to be coming from all directions at once. I cup my hands around each motor and put an ear up to it, and the noise comes from all the motors at once. Sometimes I think I’ve found it, only to have the noise coming from one of the other motors a few minutes later. The noise definitely isn’t coming from the motor I took apart last night.
Any ideas, suggestions??
Greatly appreciated-
Thanks- Douc

Hi—
I didn’t know it was possible to run the motors one at a time. How do I do that?
Hi.
On the main page of the GUI (sensor information) in the upper right corner there's the motor testing. See pic

You have to enable testing, you get a message for removing propellers, after your confirmation you can "click" with the cursor on each single motor to make it spinning.

... How do I do that?
1.) Download and install the Typhoon H GUI from the Yuneec Skins repository:
2.) After the GUI is installed, adjust the desktop Icon properties to run in compatibility mode for Windows 7 and to run as "Administrator".
3.) Start the GUI (It may appear unresponsive for about a minute on some machines. Allow time.)
5.) Follow the instructions on the GUI first page to Connect the Typhoon H to the PC. The USB must be a DATA CAPABLE USB cord. Ordinary USB charging cords will not work. Note your PC almost certainly already has the USB driver mentioned in GUI Step 1.
6.) Select the "Sensor Information" near the upper left corner of the GUI screen.
7.) Click the "Enable Testing" check box in the "Speed Controller and Testing" section at the upper right of the GUI Screen.
8.) Ensure all propellers are removed, and click the box in the confirmation pop-up.
9.) Use the mouse to press one motor circle at a time for individual motors, or press "ALL TURN" to start all six.

Hi again—
Thanks so much for this. I don’t use Windows— I’ve been using only iMac iOS and Safari on my iPhone and iPad. Is there a Mac compatible version of this?
