Controller to drone link

Hello,
I didn't think I was a 'nooby', but perhaps this post will prove that I am. All advice welcomed!
I think my Breeze links to my 'phone by wifi (?). I can then control it up to 100m away from the 'phone.
The wifi from my router at home extends for about 10m max to/from my phone.
How is it then that my 'phone can control the drone over 100m? Am I missing something.

That 5.8GHz signal from your home router gets reduced in a hurry going through walls. Out in the open in line of site it can go a bit farther although you will find that the connection at 100m is usually patchy at best.
