I imagine there would be a lot of possible repercussions to using such a device. What if it could jamb the systems on a manned aircraft.

The good news is that with most sound weapons, it's very difficult to get good range. Note that the researchers are described as holding the device near the drone to get any effect at all.

It might have some military use, but I think you'd struggle to make a working 'gun' from off the shelf hardware.
