I believe it is a fan that runs sometimes. With some it is louder than others.

Right. There is a fan and it runs whenever the camera is powered on. A hum can also come from one of the gimbal servos. To check it carefully place a finger on the camera and move it slightly in different directions. Also check for free movement of the camera with the power off.
