I see warnings advising not leaving a fully charged battery in the charger. Why.?

I thought the 4000 shuts off after completing charge.

It does shut off when full charge is achieved, but a LiPo sitting in a LiPo bag is safer than one left unattended plugged into the charger. In most cases that will be fine, but by leaving it there you marginally increase the risk of a fire should anything go wrong with the charger or the battery pack, however unlikely that may seem.

The majority of lipo accidents have occurred while the battery was being charged or discharged with a charger or after a crash. Of the batteries that have burst into flames on a charger, most have contained a defect induced by a crash, mis-handling, old age, or a manufacturing defect.

There is also the fact that many “budget” after market chargers employ highly suspect component quality and defective operational code, which can and has caused battery failures.

It’s pretty darn hard to take immediate action to contain or extinguish a fire when the owner is not present to act.

Pretty darn hard is that like trying to lift yourself by pulling your boot straps?
