Does anyone know the difference between soft and hard dampers ?
Which is better to reduce the jello
Effect .

Some people have reported the dampers for the CGO3 work well on the CGO3+. I have them but not tried them.
Hard dampers will generally add more vibration to the camera and therefor increase jello.

So I’m obsessed with this. The original dampeners were a bit stiffer and I thought more reliable. Since they changed the mount design, I’ve found between the pins, the dampeners and the cover, there is more instances of jello. I’ve been removing the top dust cover and that seems to help. I never have trouble on my rigs with the older 2016 set up but newer set ups have been touchy. I do not think the Q500 CGO3 longer dampeners are better as I got lots of jello when I tried them. If you study the flight character of both birds, the looser longer dampeners make sense on the more floppy flying Q500 but the H needs more precision and overly soft dampeners are a problem. I only see jello usually in high winds when the camera is panning against those strong cross winds.

Like @CraigCam I had an issue with jello video and resolved it in a similar manner. I removed the protective cover as it seemed useless to me. I also removed the pins and clips that were supposed to keep the dampers from coming apart but rarely did. I replaced the pins and clips with nylon cable ties and my jello video went away. YMMV.

The RS housing has less clearance so it’s easier for that dust cover to make contact then on a standard H. My problems all started when the mount and dampener design changed. The new design with the wider retainer washer and softer dampeners is less trustworthy. I’m searching for old stock replacements for safety back ups. If it has the sloped top rear with the two arrows, it’s the new design. The old one is flat across top mount and has single centered arrow at rear. Hang onto those if you got them. They addressed crash problems with the redesign at the expense of gimbal reliability.

Actually the jello video was on my other TH480 that doesn’t have the RS but I took the same approach with both.

@JulesTEO has a video that shows the difference between new and old dampers from use. They appear to be the same style dampers with one set having been flown or aged more.

Thanks I will keep looking into this. I am going to try different camera settings just to see if it helps. Keith Kuhn

For what it’s worth, the replacement top plate and dampeners I just got from Vertigo Drones is the old style with the stiffer dampeners I prefer.

WE WILL DO A BETTER TEST ON THEM LATER FOR THE
JELLO EFFECT TO SEE WHICH WORKS BEST.
