Flew Typhoon G today with no GPS. Just a little test flight

Been 4 months since I have even power on the Typhoon G.
Last flight I did with it - the batteries did not last long.
This flight was about 5 minutes in a small park.
Got up to 14 MPH going to and fro.
Makes me nervous flying with no GPS.

I used to crash it a lot when I first got it and was messing around like it was a toy.
Not a toy...

Typhoon G must be really OLD now and long in the tooth.

Wind picked up and the wind was so brisk that I had to land it
and could hardly hover with it.

Ended up cutting the power in flight when it was inches on the ground but it was blowing downfield.
The Typhoon G then flipped over and the props had power already cut off so no damage.

Plus I have the nylon props on it which you can't seem to get now.

Flying with GPS off is best done with NO wind. Also, be very careful to maintain enough altitude. If you try to fly fast it will lose altitude quickly.
I nearly always land by using the kill switch while the Q is 8-12" above the ground. As you discovered, even if it does flip you rarely break a prop.

EVERYONE should practice flight without GPS.
It is important to be able to do this for very obvious reasons.
Many of us have been flying NON GPS heli models for many years, crack on and master it. It is very satisfying to be able to actually 'fly' your model yourself with no aids.

Indeed! I just come back from vacations in the beautiful Swiss mountains. Carried the Typhoon H up to 8000ft to a glacier and was not able to start the drone because I've got no GPS lock. I didn't dared to started without GPS as it was also very windy, but I do agree this is something that needs to be trained and I will do so in the next days.
