It’s been a long week, I knew it would, lol. What is really funny, has not rained all week except for maybe 2-3 minutes one afternoon a couple days ago. Fed X shows up, I unpack it, charge both batteries. While batteries are charging I get familiar with the remote and read up on a lot of info.
I slide a battery in, I’m outside trying to get the props to start, no luck. Don’t know what I’m doing wrong, but I keep fiddling and playing with the remote, when the rain starts. It’s been pouring, and hasn’t stopped. The only day in a couple weeks that it has to rain this hard and for this long. SMH
That started at 1:30pm.
It finally stopped raining at about 6:10pm
I think I found my problem though.
The switch was on “Home” At least I think that was the problem.
I get the motors going, and in the air, but I don’t have full control over it. I can get it to go up and down, and rotate. Also can get it to go backwards but no forward. Even sometimes it would not go side to side. I thought to my self “what would have if I turned it off.” So I pushed the switch to “Off” and I worked. I’m getting the feeling with that short test flight that the OBS is really sensitive. Maybe it was the OBS that was preventing the motors from starting the first time I tried it.

Anyways, what an awesome little drone! I love it!

Back to reading and making sure I know all the features and settings I need to know about.

I do have one question, I’m probably out of luck, but the software in the remote, is it too old to update the “Play store” app. I keep getting a message “Sorry but the play store quit suddenly.” I’m thinking it’s like owning an older table, when hardware is too old for new operating systems. But maybe if I do a firmware update, maybe it will fix it.

Happy fly everyone!

You never need the play store. It is blocked by good reason. ST16 is to control the drone. The tablet function is only needed for checking files pre-check videos and so on. Never install additional apps that may running in background. and taking memory or trying to access WiFi network.
The Android version is very old and no more supported by Google.
The only app that I have installed as .apk file is MuPDF. This is a lightweight PDF viewer. Good to have a look into manuals.

Your problems to control the drone sounds like dirty stick potentiometers or wire connections in ST16. This is a well known problem, too.
Please check the HW monitor if all sticks are centered and working fine. If bar goes slowly back to center when you left the stick then the connections may be bad. Unplug and plug sometimes will help because the oxide layer on the pins will be removed. For the potis some contact cleaner may help.

If the drone was not used for a longer time, it may take longer to get GPS fix. GPS fix is needed before you can start the motors. Let it sit switched on in a free area and after max 12min you are fine.

Thread 'Way To Fix Drones project'
Way To Fix Drones project has links to all types of maintenance information for the Typhoon H, ST16, and CGO3+ as well as other Yuneec aircraft like the Q500.

As @h-elsner says the control issue is most likely an issue with a fine oxide layer on the connections for the sticks and to a lesser degree the potentiometers.

Depending on whether drone is facing towards you or away from you at the time, this could happen if you were in the "Safe" mode and the drone was less than about 30 ft from you. Always fly in the Angle mode (middle stick position).

Ya, I wasn’t gonna install any new apps, I was looking to update one of the apps. Can’t remember which one. I guess I was just curious about it more than anything.

When I was flying it, as soon as I turned off the OBS the drone was very responsive. I think I was just too close to objects it was detecting and restricting it.

Thanks for all the reply’s guys. I’m pretty sure my problem on the first flight that didn’t happen because of the rain, was because I had the switch in “Home” and the OBS was on, and I was too close to objects. The switch must have gotten moved to home without me knowing it, because I know I put it Angle mode before I was trying to start the motors. I’ll probably make sure it’s in that mode every time now before starting the motors.
The first real flight, I turned off the OBS and I had full control.
