I am a 4000 hour instrument-rated pilot, but my first time to equip and launch a drone. I went through the Part 107 rating and purchased a Yuneec Typhoon H3, after talking with a good friend who is using one. Now I have all the parts together, and the manuals all studied, so I am getting ready for my first launch this week. Now for the real test…

Be sure to remove the camera for the first couple of flights. You don't need it and it can change a minor bump into an expensive repair.

Be sure the controller flight mode switch is in the center "Angle" mode position. The motors won't even start in the bottom "Home" position. The "Smart" mode (top position) is generally a basket full of problems and confusion waiting to happen.

Allow plenty of time powered on outside sometime prior to first flight to update the GPS almanac, 30 minutes with a good view of the sky should be plenty.

Use a wide open "open area". Many initial crashes could have been resolved with more room/time to react.
