Is this the same as magnetic interference that you get on the plus ? Sorry but I'm new to the H520 world.

The magnetometer is the compass. The H520 and the H Plus both use the same GPS/Compass circuit board.
Okay, that explains it, as the top cover was off, and the GPS not plugged in. Thank you I'm learning as things happen
