Probably not Yuneec "stinging" you with such high shipping rates. It is more likely the shipping company.
I certainly agree with your sentiments about high charges for items that weigh only grams and are not bulky.
My experience with shipping from both the USA and China, has been to literally tell whoever you are dealing with to go away and sharpen their pencil "the shipping cost is too high".
In one instance, I was told "it is what it is" when a US company was asking for $US90 to ship a 150 gram gross weight item from a California location to New Zealand. I chose to cancel the order.
Similarly, I was able to achieve more than 20% saving to ship a 3.86kg gross weight item from Hong Kong when the supplier went away and found another shipping agent. As a comparison, the final shipping cost for that package was $US105. Worth comparing the shipping price, when comparing it to the weight of the other package that would have come from the US.
My thought is, it certainly pays not to blindly accept the first shipping price given. Shop around. The more people do their business across political and geographic borders, the more money shipping companies make. They're laughing all the way to the bank, and back again. Some push back is not going to hurt them one little bit, plus it will help to keep them honest.
