I'm in the middle of a big assignment and have a problem with my compass. Everything has been perfect until yesterday and today. Yesterday while flying I received a digital and audible warning to land immediately and do a compass recal. So today I just finished doing 3 in a row, which when completed indicated they all were successful - but it did not eliminate the rapid pulsating warning sound with the rapid flashing yellow main light mixed with a not so rapid alternating blue flashing lights. Between the compass recals. I also did the accel. and gimbal recals. which also completed normally. Now, I'm lost and don't know what to do except - here I am with my experts asking for urgent help. Anyone with knowledge as to what's could be wrong and what I can do to correct it is welcome to reply asap. I can't afford to not complete this assignment on time. Thanks in advance. In the past you all have solve my problems.
As a side note some of you may remember I had a crash with my other H when it literally flew into the ground while hoovering. I say that to also say I have it here in a box waiting for a winter time rebuild. So, I have some parts if you think I need to replace my compass module and if you think it may be a workable piece to try here. Just guessing / panicking I guess. Thanks for your help in advance.

Since you have some parts I would replace the compass module immediately, do another cal and then test it.

Thank you for your advice Steve. I'm hoping I can find a you tube video that can walk me through the process. I'll start looking. Thanks, I really appreciate your help. Don't know what's next if this one was damaged in the crash.

Looks like the GPS and Compass are on the same card. Yuneec Typhoon H GPS Module

I strongly suggest anyone that has to depend on any multirotor to have a back up. Yea, it's expensive but not as expensive as trashing a shoot.

It's a ribbon connector and molex or two. Take pictures of it before any removal. Use colored sharpies to distinguish any confusing connectors. It's not that difficult. If you are super concerned consider also using your other GPS receiver/antenna in the top half of the shell. I swear the compass board is the same as what Blade used but obviously a much more sophisticated IMU. Those boards would "die" if they get exposed to high EMF and where mounted at the inside of skid to get away from the motors EMF.

I have a crashed H that's my C team flyer and trainer. It's the guts from the ill fated sky drop I suffered back in May. When I punch the motors on that one, the compass light flashes and I get the immediate land recal warning. The H itself is still behaving fine and currently I just clear out the warning and continue the flight. I've calibrated many times but it still gets the flashes and warnings directly proportionate to motor rev. I think that's also why many of us see a compass light flash at lift off. Six motors ramping up together is for sure an EMF field that surrounds the entire main frame. It'd be worse if it was in the gear. If you block it from magnetic interference then it's not a compass. So I think this will always be an issue short of making stupid masts like the Chroma had.

This is the backup, I believe.
Yes he's correct. This is my back up. Some-days it's all about bad luck, although I was able to land safely. Didn't find any you tube videos on disassembly. Guess I'll start disassemble of my crashed unit first and learn as I go. Oh wait a minute, this is still under the 1 year Warranty. Now there's some good luck if I can get good turn around. Anyone know if there is a Yuneec CS shop near NC that does warranty work?

Thanks Craig, I'm going to give it a try once I speak to Yuneec CS since I just found out I'm still covered by their 1 yr Warranty. As for the rest of your discussion here your speaking way over my head I'm sorry to say. If I do tear into this how far into the main body to I have to go? Where is the module located please. I'm really strapped for both time & $$. thanks

The biggest issue is the plastic clips that hold two pieces of the shell together. I've been tearing apart quads now for three years and find the clip part annoying. Once you've removed the obvious hex head screws that hold the shell together, you want to squeeze the sides gently to pop the clip/hook apart. Some of the videos on installing antennas upgrades have good disassembly instructions. But under warranty on your area is Carolina Dronz I believe and they are great.

So, how far into the body of the H do I have to go to find the mogule. Is it attached to the top of the main board or do I have to remove it also? thanks.

This video show the disassembly. The GPS/Compass module is in the top half of the shell under some foil covered foam tape. Just watch this vid up to about 8:20 minutes.

Thanks for this video Steve. I have to make a quick decision on this disassembly or drive 5 hrs 4X to Carolina dronz to have them repair it. I've watch to the spot where they have unsnapped the top cover exposing the main board. I see what looks like the GPS unit right on top. ?? If that is it - can I just unplug it, replace it and reinstall the top cover? or do I have to remove the main board which is a little more complicated to get to the plug? Thanks for your help.

You just unplug it and replace. You need to remove and replace the foil that covers it. The foil is supposed to protect the compass and GPS from interference from the main board.

Thanks, here I go. Appreciate everyone's help. Yesterday I called Yuneec CS and was told I had an 85 minute wait time, so I hung up and sent an email which they have not responded to either. Pretty frustrating for a business man who is trying to run a business.

Just get in the cue. They call back. Hanging up gets you nowhere. I've never not been called back.

Since he has a spare module and is in a time crunch it looks like he is doing it himself. It's good experience and builds confidence if you can fix it quickly and correctly.

When you get ready to test it allow some extra time after you boot it up outside for the GPS to stabilize.

OK I did it. I made the swap very easily. Now I'm about to give it a pre & post flight check out. Fingers crossed I don't hear or see any warning lights or alarms. Thanks to you all. you're the best.
