CGO3 App for Android - worked...now broke on Nexus 7 - SOLVED

I've been using my CGO3+ with a steady grip for interior video and connecting to it using an ASUS Nexus 7 tablet.
for reference: This one

Was working fine. I haven't used it in a couple weeks, but today I am having an issue connecting and I suspect it has to do with the most recent update to the Gimbal firmware.

When I connect now I get this and then the app crashes:

Has anyone been able to fix this? I'm thinking its a dual band Wi-Fi problem. Is there a way to turn off dual band? or maybe re-flash the Gimbal to older firmware?

Thanks for any input.

I have had that exact issue with a Google Nexus 7 since I received the tablet two days ago... tried several things,
including setting up the CGO3 with a static IP address. Nothing helped, so it goes back to the seller today.
Many newer models of phones seem to be better at connecting the CGO3 to the app, but I'm not dropping
another $500+ on a phone that would be primarily a dedicated view screen for the ActionGrip.

Based on info from the Yuneec-forum site, I have ordered a Teclast P70 tablet which is supposed to work with
the CGO3 app. Will have to wait for arrival to confirm. Very frustrating to say the least. Tech support has no
comprehensive list of compatible devices. They said I could use the ST-16 as an alternative, which will connect
to the camera while on the grip, but that's really untenable for handheld use.

BTW, I know when I was trying to get the Nexus to work, that there is an option under the advanced WiFi settings to use the
5.8 GHz setting only. In my case, it didn't make any difference.

Not to sure about the tablet settings but try using just the CGO app not the CGO3 app as my android only worked with the CGO

Interesting. Thanks for the reply. I've tried now on both my Nexus 7s (yes I have two) and both my CGO3+ gimbals. (yep two of those as well) No luck.

That nonsense happened to me everyday since day one on 4 android devices. Yuneec recomended an apple with ios 8 or 9.

I did see a posting that the app seems to behave much better with Apple IOS, but that's just BS... what is the f'n point of releasing
an Android version that won't run? Same kind of BS as companies like the site DroneDeploy that only develop their software to
be compatible with DJI products.

Well I know I mentioned that and they said there is a lot of Android versions and it's hard to make it compatible with everything. That left me more puzzled to make matters worse it doesn't work with the latest Android or apple operating system.

So far on a couple phones I've had luck withAndroidd 4.3

You can also try the cgo2 app it's worked for me with the cgo3+ but you don't have adjustment controls just pic mode and video mode.

ohhh that's a good thought. Sound promising.

Sadly, that did not work for me either. But again, thanks for the possible solution. Maybe I'm wrong and this isn't a dual band Wi-Fi issue from the latest firmware update....hmmm.

Al I do know is I've used a Nexus 7 to connect to my CGO3+ using the Android App for months...until about a week ago. So frustrating when you can't count on technology to work.

An Apple product? Their ST16 runs Android. They are suggesting we use Android to connect to the gimbal while its on the Typhoon H and use an iOS device to connect to the SAME gimbal while its on their Steady Grip.

uuuggghhh..... sometimes.....I so want to like Yuneec and use their stuff, but they make it SOOOO difficult.

Could not agree more!!! and I'll raise you. Whats the point of releasing an app that works for months, then after an update to I believe the gimbal firmware, now works on less devices....and oh by the way, the list of devices it works on is a secret. LoL. Sarcasm of course, but in reality, customer support is unable to provide me a list of android devices that have been tested to work. wow. really Yuneec, really?

hmmm....this is interesting too. Latest Android version.....

Seems my Nexus took the latest marshmallow Android update. V6.0.1 which DOES NOT work.

yet my MotoX, also Marshmallow, but only version 6.0, DOES work.

It's a conspiracy, I tell ya! DJI and Apple conspiring to take down Yuneec and Android. ;)

Seriously though, it does seem odd. It may very well be a bug that crept into the last release. Two steps forward, one step back...

Did not occur to me that the firmware update could be the core issue with the Android OS... but if so why does the
ST16 connect to the camera on the grip, since the controller also runs on Android?

This is more disturbing, because if this new tablet that I've ordered initially works, but in several months
(as an example) takes a dump because of a future Android OS upgrade, it will be far too late to attempt
to return to the seller, and I'll end up being SOL with a electronic paperweight. I am getting this tablet
exclusively to use as viewer for the grip.

You are correct and you will be in the exact same position I am in right now. A dedicated 7 inch screen for the steady grip is now obsolete due to an update. (whether that update is an Android OS update or a gimbal firmware update is unclear to me right now)

Regarding the ST16 able to connect to gimbal while on Steady Grip: my ST16 is running Android v 4.4.4. So this makes sense it connects and should continue to.

And on these devices, there is no way to block an Android version update, right?

.... so it can stay retarded enough to connect to the yuneec camera!
LoL!!!

Yep, agree. Will need to roll back and then lock it to NOT take any updates. I'm pretty technical and have rooted Android devices in the past. Will take some research and time, but I can't help but wonder, this is not exactly a hobbyist solution. Does Yuneec really expect their customer base to be solving their compatibility issues?

your issue is that your android updated xdadevelopers will show you how to roll back or root it so it can stay retarded enough to connect to the yuneec camera!

I am a specialist at staying retarded! See Signature...

based on my experience with MY devices, I would concur. A bug that crept in from Android v 6.0 to 6.0.1 or....crept in at the last gimbal update. I'm not sure.

Now the question is...how to report it to the programmers and how to get Yuneec to view this as high enough priority to fix pronto and release new firmware.

(Yes I called Yuneec CS in Cali, they took the 50 flavors of Android compatibility stance and said to wait until the next update and it may be fixed)
