BE EXTRA CAREFUL OF THAT SWITCH ON THE RIGHT ! ! !
The battery was low and I was planning a hand catch.
I positioned my left hand on the red button.
As I let go with my right hand to reach out, I accidentally bumped the mode switch.
I grabbed the H just as is responded to "Safe" mode.
The H went to full power to back up 28 ft.
The watts load at low volts drew high amps from the stock battery.
When I pulled out the battery, the inside of the H smelled really bad.
The H would no longer power up. The main board was dead.
I had to swap out the main board.
This is a slow motion view if the incident:

Luckily you had another board. That's an expensive part, well here it is.

Similar occurs when power is commanded with one or more propellers restricted. If a motor cannot turn because a propeller is restrained the ESC will demand more and more current to get the prop moving. At a certain point the demand exceeds the capability of the ESC rating and the smoke escapes. Another scenario has a propeller impacting a part of your body. If the prop is able to continue movement after the strike the next strike will hit harder.

Also be interested in your hat cam. I've seen some videos from at least 2016 that you used the hat cam. On at least three occasions, it has told the story far better than words could ever have done. I've also seen at least one video from @Agustine using a hat cam.
It seems something I would like to look into. Can you tell us more about it?

I mounted the camera under the bill so it is just above my normal line of sight.
It previously was a Gopro clone, which is now mounted on a i-steady hand gimbal.
Even though my vision does not focus that close, I can tell if the record indicator is blinking.
It is my primary flight log.

PS: Hand held in good weather

Hands free in bad weather.

And it is a very good heads up. Lots of folks do hand catch as a normal routine. Something as simple as bumping the mode switch turns it into anything other than routine. Good video. Good message.
I agree. I more often than not hand catch. I'm usually very careful when it comes to hand catching but I can see how that switch could be bumped. I have accidentally bumped that switch before without noticing but fortunately not at any critical moment like during a hand catch.
