ND filters allow setting the shutter speed to twice the frame rate at ISO 100. This will avoid the choppy look of faster shutter speeds in your videos. Note, this applies to video only. For stills, faster shutter speed is better to eliminate camera movement blur. That means, for stills, don't use ND filters.
Setting exposure and locking white balance are important to simplify post processing. Auto WB is especially bad as the scene changes, so do the colors. Also, the histogram will help you determine the correct exposure. DO NOT OVEREXPOSE. You can't fix that. Slightly underexposed images and video can be easily corrected in post.
