Since my PC monitor is 1080p, I've been recording at 1080p with no barrel distortion.
I see from this video that 4K uses the entire lens field which reveals the edge curves.
It looks like those who are compulsive about the rectilinear look must be post-processing.
Here is a 1080p video of a construction project where the owner wanted edge lines to look straight.
