Flying in the mountains

The other weekend I went up to Mt. Charleston, just 30 minutes from my house. Brought up my Q500 4K. I was at 8200’ elevation. I could not start it up. The controller was giving me a warning about flying above 8000 MSL. Is there a fix for this? Luckily I had also brought with me my DJI Phantom 3 Pro. No issues flying that one.

I believe 8000 is the max with standard firmware. One of the threads that goes into the issue is Altitude max problem in the Q500 "How To" section.
