Help Updating Typhoon H – ST16 & Aircraft Firmware Mismatch (TX/RX Fail)

Hey all,
Hoping someone can help me sort this out. I have a Yuneec Typhoon H and an ST16 that aren’t playing nice anymore. I believe the issue is a firmware mismatch — the ST16 is on a newer firmware (v3.1.30), and the aircraft (and possibly the camera/SR24) are still on older firmware versions.

I keep getting:

  • ❌ TX and RX update failed
  • ❌ Can’t complete bind (or binds with no video/telemetry)
  • ❌ Camera firmware "too old" warning
Unfortunately, all of the known firmware download links are either dead or missing files — KopterKlaus, Dropbox, MEGA, etc.

I’d really appreciate any help with:

  • Guidance on properly updating both ST16 and the aircraft to a compatible version
  • A working full TyphoonH_Ver3.04_A.bin (~57MB, universal) that will update SR24, FC, and camera
  • Optional: a way to downgrade ST16 if that’s easier than updating the drone
Just trying to breathe some life back into this setup. Thanks so much if you’re able to share working files or just point me in the right direction!

Download source for Yuneec FW is: Yuneec Skins
Latest FW is:
ST16: ST16_V3.1.30.yuneec
Drone: TyphoonH_Ver3.04_A.bin (can be used only if camera is correct bound to the RC).

The Drone-FW contains:
- Flight controller: TyphoonH_FC_V1.35_3_3_2017.yuneec
- Gimbal: CGO3PLUS_V1.25_2016_9_13.yuneec
- Camera: cgo3+gb_3.2.34_LC2_A_firmware_30235.bin (the only region-specific FW part)
- RealSense: TyphoonH_Flow_V1.04_3_25_2016.yuneec

Bind problems may have other reasons than FW. The SR24 FW is the same since the beginning.
What other problems do you have? What FW versions do you currently have?
FW compatibility problems will appear only if you have a really, really old drone FW.

Hey, thanks again for the help. I double-checked — I do get live video feed from the CGO3+ to the ST16, so the camera seems properly bound and working.

That said, the ST16 still shows:
  • When I try to update the ST16 it "updates" but I get “TX/Rf update failed” pop ups
  • “Camera firmware too old”
  • And it won’t let me update the camera from the update menu — it fails saying it doesn’t know aircraft type
  • No CGO3+ option in the camera selection
Here’s what I’ve got:
  • ST16: v3.1.b30
  • Camera: 3.2.05(F)
  • I have a copy of TyphoonH_Ver3.04_A.bin but it fails every time.
  • I’ve also seen the camera blinking red/green, amber, or green depending on SD card presence
  • AutoPilot V1.35
  • Gimbal V1.22
  • APK Version 1.00.45
  • if I try to manually update rf and tx the Bootloader prompt in the top right says Transmitter not response. and the updates always fail.

Appreciate your input — this has been the most helpful thread I’ve found.

In camera selection you should have:
C-GO3 - this is for CGO3+ but without advanced camera settings.
C-GO3-Pro - also for CGO3+ but has advanced camera settings, this should be used, also for photo/video noobs like me
C-GoET - for the thermal camera
C-Go4 - This is only for the H920Plus with ST16 and CGO4

Camera FW too old is something I only get if attach the wrong camera, means a CGO3 from Q500.
TX/Rf update failed never seen but the last FW update of an ST16 was many years ago, I forget fast...
But in the download area for Typhoon H in the ST16 tools section there are RX and TX FW files. Maybe those can be updated manually. Check FW in hidden menu first. Never done this...

Same for "doesn’t know aircraft type" but this may be caused by not bound drone, but ST16 update should run without drone switched on. So, also strange.

Edit: If you have already B30 FW on the ST16, why do you want to update again? I think better to do nothing than something we regret later.

I’d really appreciate any help with:

There are many you-tube videos available, but not all methods will work correctly or reliably with all versions of TH firmware. The method used by this video will work for all versions and is the most reliable. Most significantly, it does not rely on WiFi to update the drone.

Version 3.1.b30 has the files, but I am not certain they will upload it the earlier versions have been removed. You can check the current RX/TX versions by running ST16 Check TX and RF Version.pdf.

If none of this helps, it would good to know some history of the ST16.
Is this controller new to you?
Did anything happen between the last time the system worked properly and the first time it did not? Things like getting dropped/hard bump, firmware updates, aftermarket APPs installed, factory APPS deleted, repairs, modifications, long storage? Factory resets do not generally cause issues but there have been some that did. Any thing else that may seem related?

Yes, this ST16 is new to me, but it’s not new in general. I work in an IT department that originally purchased the Typhoon H brand new back in 2016. From what I’ve been told, it worked great during the few times they used it — mostly for light promotional or instructional footage.

I started working here after their original “drone guy” left in 2020. Since then, the drone has been sitting in storage, completely unused, until I took it on as a summer project to try and get it back up and running.

Unfortunately, I’ve had no luck so far. I’ve only done a factory reset on the ST16 when I first noticed that it showed the error:
“Transmitter not response”
Since then, I haven’t been able to get the TX module to initialize or bind to the aircraft again. No custom apps were ever installed or removed — it’s a stock unit aside from the factory reset and the firmware troubleshooting I’ve tried.

Just hoping I can bring this thing back to life!

A good next step will be to check the controller RX/TX versions to see if each reports a firmware version.

You can take screenshots by pressing and holding the center button under the screen. The screenshots can be found in file manager/pictures/screenshots. They can be downloaded by SD card or by using a data capable USB cord.

That is where I see Transmitter Not Response. Its not reporting anything.

There is a bright orange LED on the lower right of the side to which the antennas are connected. Some few modules are in with the LED side down and covered by the foam tape.

This sounds like a HW problem. The ST24 is this module, check if connector is sitting on place. Sometime disconnect and connect helps. Do not touch antennas.

I'm not 100% sure but there should be a orange LED (the SR24 in the drone has it for sure).
Blinking means waiting on connection.
Solid means connected.

I am now almost 100% sure the SR24 has died :(
They are fairly inexpensive and readily available. Yuneec used the same module and firmware in a host of both drone and controller applications. The differences are mainly in the length and color of the connector wires. I have not had any issues swapping them around.
