Very saddened by the loss off life from Brazil. This as an avoidable accident. It happened because the distance traveled was at the edge of the planes range but weather changed that. Most likely headwind leading to greater fuel consumption and no way to land or refuel. This is a flight planning failure and many were involved in the decision to proceed.
I humbly ask that everyone who is upset at limitations to our flight parameters give pause and consider the safety of how you operate. We don't carry passengers obviously but are bound to the same physical world where being careless can have life changing consequences. Any flight that ends safely is a good flight. My last trip I passed on some great shots due to unpredictable wind gusts. I instead turned it into a scouting mission for future return and shooting. I'm happy to stay within FAA guidelines as there is plenty to document inside our current envelope and being on the right side of the regulations is our personal responsibility as well as a way to help ensure we all can enjoy this hobby.
