First time you do it, I suggest a big open field. The H480 is big and carries a lot of inertia, IE, it wont gain speed quickly or stop quickly.
I actually thought I was going to flip mine once going full speed (GPS OFF) and then slamming full stick in the opposite direction.
Play with it a bit (GPS OFF) before you attempt trying to video at those speeds. I have seen some tendencies for an altitude loss when going fast, so don't get caught too close to the ground. Watch some videos of the racing Quads, those things are almost vertical when flying.
I would add that flying fast with GPS off will burn through a battery like there's no tomorrow. Make sure you've got a fully charged battery in the aircraft...no taking off with a half depleted battery...and don't fly at top speed when the battery is getting low. Also, at those speeds it is all to easy to find the aircraft is heading towards BLOS!
The above is correct turn off GPS and the H will exceed 50 mph. In the cold as mentioned you may get a low battery warning if running an old battery. My H did just over 50 mph with GPS off and it will follow at close to 40 mph. The GPS glitch shown in the video seems to have been fixed in the next firmware update, it has not happened since.
If you aren’t really good flying in a pretty much full manual mode, don’t push things hard when first trying out non GPS flight. The H will most definitely try to trade altitude for more airspeed and those not expecting this could find themselves driving their H into the ground.
Makes sense, and definitely good to know. I’m still impressed with the speed it’s capable of in GPS flight, the video above is kind of mind blowing, it’s capable of some high speeds and pretty tight maneuvers.
Ive hit 48 mph gps off running the dji 9450 carbon fiber props. Also pull the camera off . The air friction at almost 50 mph causes the gimbal and the camera to wiggle all over the place.
Ive done 45 mph in follow me chasing myself in a car wih gps on.
