What is the differance in the st16s and the st16?

The ST-16S has the software to fly a Typhoon Plus, Typhoon H 520 and, possibly the H3. It is not compatible with any of the regular Typhoon H’s. Also it utilizes a slightly different battery but otherwise looks very similar. By the same token, the controller for a Typhoon H cannot control a Plus, 520 or H3

Actually there are more differences than you would expect on the first look. Although the transmitters seem identical on the first glance, even the case isn't. There are slight differences at several points. The internals also look completly different. The gimbals (control sticks) for example are not 100% identical. You can mount the ST16s gimbals inside a ST16 and they will work but not the other way around since they use different mounting points which the ST16 gimbals do not have. You can already see this on the outside since the ST16s does not have any visible mounting screws whereas the St16 does.

I have not inspected the electronics so closely that I would be able to tell you any details but it seems as if there are big differences.

The important difference is massive differences in programming. The original ST-16 cannot be programmed to act as a 16s. And the 16s is not programmed for H-480 hardware and software. You cannot use one for the other.
