If the H turns into 5-motor mode will it then automatically switch to RTH? Or is the best to try to fly back or land in 5-motor mode or manually or flip to RTH?

Either should work. Home mode will work better in some cases because the H sometimes does a slow spin in 5 rotor mode. It will not enter RTH automatically during 5 rotor mode.
