Awesome Time magazine cover shot made up of drones

The amount of computational processing for this event is staggering. Not just getting each drone into position and back to the ground but ensuring none of them collide in the process. I didn't see any falling from the sky.

Kudos to Intel!

They also demonstrated this at the Super Bowl snd Olympics opening ceremonies. The military has also done something similar with the technology in an airdrop exercise. It’s pretty fantastic stuff and illustrates the path remote aerial technology will be taking going forward.

I am guessing there are some collisions but the genius may well be in the autonomous ability to recover from a bump. At the 4:00 minute mark, in the video, if you look at the very top of the frame directly above the "T" in the title - Time, there is one of the red lit drones in the border that falls and appears to get at least to 90 degrees or more as it falls diagonally but then it quickly recovers and begins to climb back into position as the clip dissolves into a different clip. Based on the 100 meter frame size that fall looks to be maybe 75 feet or so to complete the recovery.

Intel got special permission to do this two pilots only. The super bowl was pre-recorded because of crowd below on day off. The combination of the flight and light control makes it like making a giant screen in the sky. It’s going to be used in place of fireworks in more places as we dry up. Watching them return home is pretty amazing. What a time to be alive!!

I'm reminded of one of my favorite Sci-Fi authors, Arthur C. Clark

"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."

That reminds me of a TV prog circa 1970 in the U.K. called Catweazle

A quote from this Wiki page Catweazle - Wikipedia says:

"Catweazle mistakes all modern technology for powerful magic (an example of Clarke's third law), particularly "elec-trickery" (electricity) and the "telling bone" (telephone)."
