You should make certain the meter can test internal resistance. The IR is the most important check of the battery condition.

The instructions that come with these meters are not very good. The video below shows how to test IR.
This video was using an H battery but the Q500 is the same procedure. You can just use the balancing lead that came with the battery so no adapter is needed.
