C23 vs E90 for the H520

I am looking to upgrade my Typhoon H to an H520 (NOT H520E) (long story).
Most of the H520's for sale don't include a camera. As I look for cameras, the closest to the CGO3+ I have now looks to be the C23 or the E90.
Are they the same camera?
Are they both "Plug and Play" for the H520?
Do they both have the same telemetry?
Do they both work the same with Data Pilot?

The C23's I've seen online are a few hundred cheaper than the E90's.

For use with the Typhoon H520, the C23 and E90 cameras are interchangeable. When you mount the C23 on the drone, it shows as an E90, but it performs the same as the E90. All of the camera functions work fine.

As to converting a Typhoon H (480) to a Typhoon H520 requires a substantial change-out of the hardware, including the mainboard. The frame is different as are the arms and motors/blades. I'm attaching a more detailed list that would be needed to make the transition. Most of the parts for the Typhoon H Plus/H520 are the same, but very different from the Typhoon H (480).

For use with the Typhoon H520, the C23 and E90 cameras are interchangeable. When you mount the C23 on the drone, it shows as an E90, but it performs the same as the E90. All of the camera functions work fine.

You might check with John Mitchell (Yuneec Skins), a member of this forum, that has rebuilt C23's and E90's at a good price.

The main thing I noticed was you cant tell the 23 which way its pointing / shooting at the way points the way you can adjust at each individual waypoint as you can with the 90 ??? Maybe its just me, maybe not, I've asked around, and never got an answer ?

I use my H520's pretty much exclusively for photogrammetry, so the camera is pointing down all of the time. You don't have the zoom function on the H520 with the C23, which I seldom use anyway. The C23 does fine on the H Plus for the zoom. I haven't tried camera angle/orientation for waypoints on the H520.

Will the e90 work on the hplus and function exactly the same as the c23 when fitted. I think the other way about fitting a c23 to the h520 has some limitations but maybe installing e90 software to the c23 might correct that. I’m curious to weather the c23 and e90 have any differences hardware wise or is it all software

I don't believe you can swap the firmware between the E90/C23. I suspect the mainboard in the camera is slightly different. If you mount an E90 on an H Plus you may have to go to the Android WiFi menu to bind it to the controller.

Your plan should work just fine, the cameras are compatible and you can ensure you have switched over within your ST-16 pad settings where you select camera.

I would just ensure you update all firmware to latest (drone and camera)

oh glad to hear!!!! I have a few of these drones and cameras being sent in for repairs and quite a few of the parts in stock now. I should hopefully have more content coming out soon thats helpful to pilots

I just put one of my E90 cameras on a Typhoon H Plus. No change in drone or camera firmware; or change with the controller. I bound the camera to the WiFi on the controller as E90 and completed the binding to the Typhoone H Plus. I did need to reset the drone for it to control the camera, but all did well. All of the settings for the C23 on the controller work with the E90: SD card formatting, video/still image color and adjustments; the zoom function on the controller screen works just like the C23 as well. So, the camera functions just like the C23 with one exception: it did not do a panorama sequence of photos correctly. The SD card was formatted as 100E90HD as you would expect and the folders are the same. If you are not doing panorama shots in auto, it should do everything that you need without any change to the firmware.
