I had the chance to play with an CGO-ET from H520. I was surprised that it can be used with ST16 and the app from H480. That means the camera settings will be controlled by CGI commands like CGO3+. The only difference between CGO-ET from H480 vs. H520 is the gimbal FW. For me the HW looks similar. I see no reason why the a FW change of the gimbal only cannot make a CGO-ET fit for H480 or H520, because the camera FW seems to be the same.
Question: Has someone tried this with success? Or is there a risk to brick that thing?

However, for the H520 CGO-ET like for H480 is it also possible to select more Lepton palettes as usual. Here is a HTML page that can do this. You have now 11 palettes.
Simply connect your device (any device that have a internet browser and 5GHz WiFi) with the CGO-ET and open index.htm with your browser. Tap on the palette you want to get. That's it.

After power off the camera will always start with the palette that is selected on ST16, not one of the additional.

Try to put a round plate from CGO3+ and do some calibration. Not tested by me.

I have a CGOET from the H520 that I would be willing to do the test on... run the H480 gimbal firmware.
My problem is that I only have the gimbal firmware from the H520 version, not the H480.

In the past there were several posts regarding bricked CGOET cameras. They failed to function after installing the wrong firmware. We were told by Yuneec the cameras had to be returned to the factory for repair.
So this will be an interesting experiment.
