Don’t know about you but I have more than that tied up in 1 of my 6 multirotors, before adding a camera to it. Point being what we spend on equipment is irrelevant. The two H’s are the lowest in capability of the bunch. Those two H’s are the most simple of them to operate, but that was the design intent behind them; to provide the masses a relatively easy to use product at a price point that, although appearing high to many, was not so much it would prevent the general public from buying. Buying is what they want and need consumers to do, and for the makers, having the public buy over and over is how they make their money. They won’t make money by developing software that allows their customers to continually upgrade their models for free. If you would like an extreme example of this practice just look at the the DJI line up in the Phantom and Mavic series. Incremental improvements or corrections in each model the customer had to buy to obtain.

Only open sourced APM and Pixhawk based systems have created and provided a constant stream of performance upgrades for free download. As those improvements are applicable to the FC, not a particular aircraft they can be applied to a broad base of aircraft designs, designs generally with the ability for the owners to make aircraft hardware alterations as needed or desired to maximize the utility of new firmware or software code, or allow adaptation of hardware not associated with a proprietary brand. Realistically, those models allow for significant modification because the owners built them instead of buying a mass produced package deal.

Short version is brand manufacturers don’t care about us, they only care about our money and what it takes to cause us to five them our money. That’s pretty much the way it is with anyone trying to sell you something, be it a product or service. They aren’t in business to take care of you, they are in it for your money. That’s also why H batteries cost so much. They wrapped a common battery in a special case to force us to pay them more money for something that is otherwise much cheaper elsewhere. A guaranteed revenue stream.

Nothing about the 520 or H Plus was designed or intended to be backwards compatable with H-480, nor are H-480 cameras forward compatible with 520 or H Plus. There’s not company profit in doing that.
