Looks like us EU residents owning drones over 250g/8.8oz, will need to be registered.
From December 2015 the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) only required drones, including battery/camera, weighing 1kg/2.2lb & over, to be registered with them.

The EU likes to follow the FAA but tack on lots of additional rules and user fees. I would not be surprised to see them impose landing fees and charges for ATC you don't use.
