As I understand the problem, staying at home is not the point. Staying away from other people is the most effective way to block the spread of the infection. For the time being, we need to assume that anyone can be contagious, even without symptoms. Masks will help to filter your own breath, both in and out, if you must be around people to buy food or other necessities. Therefore, if you and I want to fly our camera drones out somewhere away from people, that should not be a problem. Any comments?

I'm certainly not going to be one of those that tell other people how to live their lives during this time but I will give you my two cents on this topic.

The basic thinking goes like this: Yes, if you are away from people - that is just as good as being away from them in your own home BUT - getting to and from these outside places requires travel of some sort, and it is that activity that puts people at risk - NOT from Covid 19 but from things like car accidents, slip and falls and any number of things that can and do happen when humans move about. Not to mention all the non accident type activities related to travel like gas stations, car repairs, and any number of things that; once again, require you to come in contact with other humans.

And now to the point for staying at home - First Responders are a resource that are being tasked very hard in these times and a reduction in their call outs is one of the big goals of the stay at home order.

Example: If you or I go out to fly our drone and lets say we're careless and we land in the top of a tree. Then we decide that we can climb up and get it but in doing so, we fall and then call 911 . . . . This is bad. Because now the first responders have to come and pick you up (wasting valuable PPE and masks because they have to assume you're infected), then take you to a hospital where there are likely to be cases already being treated . . . .and this scenario just continues to spiral downhill as you can see.

And the problem really becomes that just about every individual will do all sorts of mental gymnastics to rationalize that whatever it is they want to do, can also be done 'safely'. Nobody wakes up in the morning planning on having an accident but they happen all the time.

We've been told.
We can exercise and walk once a day, walk the dog.
Buy food only when necessary.
Get medicine and medical supplies.
Travel to and from work.
Visit a person who you care for.
No congregating with others, no groups.
No other journeys are deemed necessary,
Maintain 2 metre distance between people.

They are all correct in my 2cents...;)
But I'm not sure why everyone feels the need to exceed the limits of their own property during these sad but true times...
I have had mine out twice today just flying about in the yard, neighbor kids all lined up on the fence to watch.... But we all knew not to get too close as you say, we never know who has it.

Condolences to the parents in the U.K. that lost a child recently to covid-19.......R.I.P Little One!

In the UK we have been totally grounded we can exercise for 30-minutes outside example a walk to the shops or walking the dog so definitely no flying

Not seen 30 minutes mentioned in any of the guidance, certainly seen exercise once a day though.

This is exactly the conversation I wanted to start with this post. We're all in this together and need to curtail our activity, for the time being, for the greater good.
I do hope people continue to get daily exercise to keep their health up if/when they are exposed to the virus.

Luckily have plenty of jobs to do, cutting the grass and lots of gardening coming up with the growing season, just started painting external gates, doors and frames etc, lots of internal painting and chores, home schooling the children, all the jobs you can't get usually done, so I'm staying put for the time being.

Ok not sure where you're living but in the UK ok you can go for exercise for approximately 30 minutes or walk the dog go to the shops obviously that is not got a time on it but it's easy to find out if you look on the news you will see anybody going out but hasn't got a purpose it's been sent home by the police so hope that solve this problem well your problem

My brother is a trauma nurse in Flint, Michigan, USA. One of his friends and fellow employee succumbed to CoViD-19 last night. This is from my brother’s FB page:

“Yesterday, we McLaren Flint employees lost one of our co-workers to Covid 19. We (Patrick's fellow Nurses) are heartbroken and praying that not another one of us has to die while trying to save our patients from this virus. Please pray for Patrick's wife (another friend of mine) and his son. I am posting this to hopefully make every one of you realize that our local Nurses, Doctors, First Responders, and all other frontline Health Care Workers are now being affected by this virus that so many said was nothing. It is a horrible feeling to be caring for patients that are not allowed to have their family or friends with them. This is especially heart wrenching when you have to put the patient on a ventilator and see their oxygen level drop even with "the breathing machine" working at its capacity. We are watching people die from this virus on a daily basis. The best way to avoid contracting Covid 19 is to stay home and do not have people visit you. I want to see all of my friends after this pandemic is over, not as one of my patients lying in a room all alone. I beg you all to Stay Home and Stay Safe!”

My brother has to use his N95 mask for 7 12 hour shifts before he is allowed to have it replaced.

I have a friend that works at the other hospital in Genesee County, Michigan working on the CoViD-19 floors. He is forced to work 12 hours on and 6 hours off. When he goes home to get some rest he confines himself to one end of the house and does not go near his wife and grand kids.

Our health care workers and emergency service providers are like soldiers going to war. Why are we having so much trouble giving them the PPE and life-saving equipment they need?

Because we manufacture next to nothing in the US anymore. Congress has allowed our companies to outsource nearly all of it to maximize profit. Hope the wake up call sinks in this time. Global economy is great, but you still need to keep your base in your own backyard.

I'll probably get lambasted for this but I don't think anything should jeopardize our rights even viruses. The founding fathers especially Benjamin Franklin didn't say "those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety except for a plandemonic tragedy"

Arguing that we shouldn't fly because we could place undue stress on 1st responders is ludicrous. We are adults and if the gov't says stay 6 feet away to avoid giving and getting the virus then we should heed those suggestions.

Letting the gov't circumvent our God given rights is always unconstitutional and against our God given natural laws. The gov't always assumes were all to stupid to raise our kids, drive, fly, eat etcetera. They are right about some of the morons that just do whatever they feel like doing but the gov't can't right enough rules and play big brother to stop fools like that.

The gov't has desecrated the constitution, natural law and forcibly introduced socialism under the guise of safety. It's truly time to look at the big picture on this one. 3000 babies are aborted each day and no one blinks an eye but the Corona virus stops our rights in a heartbeat. Accidents, viruses, war and other tragedies occur at an alarming rate. Want to be safe wrap yourself in bubble wrap, put on a face mask and never leave home. That's not living in my book.

We all cherish our personal freedoms and rights. But in this case, it's not so much about personal freedom as giving the hospitals and health care workers a break. People are getting sick at a rate that is overwhelming many hospitals around the world. By taking the initiative to help prevent the spread of the virus, you are saving lives...perhaps someday, your own.

There is a lot of misinformation in the press, better to read the Government guidennce. As for Police haven't seen any, I live in the Cotswolds, so not a urban area.

We can still work away from home if you cannot work at home, so commercial drone flights are possible.

The act of flying isn’t the problem, the biggest issue is non essential travel. The ER was always overcrowded before the pandemic. Just think what the number one complaint has been with most hospital ER’s - the wait time to be treated. Now throw a contagion like SARS Co2 that causes Covid19 into the mix. You don’t just stroll into the ER anymore. You are vetted entering the hospital. If you are not the patient you don’t get in (unless you are a caretaker for a minor or mentally incompetent person). If your illness/injury is not life threatening you will be sent home to recuperate. Even if you display Covid19 symptoms, if you are not in a life threatening situation you will not be tested and you will be sent home.

The whole stay home, stay safe is about avoiding accidents that would place a further strain on the first responders and the hospital facilities. If you are able to walk to your flight area and be totally away from other people (not just avoiding overflight) or you have property you can fly at and not endanger others, I have no problem with you flying.

So those that ignore the guidelines and do as they please place an undue burden on our first responders and medical system. This also flows over into the people providing essential services such as farming and all other steps getting food to the grocery stores. Those providing utilities, internet for remote work and communications, pharmaceuticals, and the list goes on.

At some point the doctors, nurses, first responders, police, fire and so on will mentally and physically burn out. We will be in a world of trouble at that point. I truly hope we never get to that point.

So for now my LiPo batteries are sitting on storage charge. If I do fly it will be at a place I can walk to and is safely away from others and their property. Yes there are a couple I can do that, but I also don’t want others coming around wondering what I’m doing or calling law enforcement and having them pulled off of something more critical to come see what I am up to.

If you think this is bad now, just think of what was implemented during WWII with rationing and more. That and Martial Law are but a stroke of the pen away.

I suppose it might vary from country to country, in UK it would probably fall under " Non essential work" so not allowed, it's ambiguous, with vague guidelines.

If pubs can't sell their beer Debenhams can't sell its clothes from there shops and businesses are dropping like flys I don't know that being a commercial drone pilot makes an exception ?
