Your probably asking yourself WHY??? I know I did but they go on to explain after conversion to a 360 degree video/photo you can use it in any 360 degree viewer (Youtube, Facebook) and also in VR headsets. Here's an example using an Inspire camera: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f--TP8C1NJE
For this particular lens install they also add an internal ND8 filter between the lens and sensor to reduce the required shutter speed so the rolling shutter doesn't cause image jello.
Also down the road they are working on some kind of zoom lens, not sure how that will work but if I had to guess it would be a manual adjustable lens of some kind.
