Does the Typhoon H drone have a small battery on the main board that keeps the compass up to date? Whenever I change the battery or just take the battery out to charge the battery, as soon as I put the battery in and start up the drone I have to recalibrate the compass before I can fly it.

When you change the main flight battery, do you often have to wait more than a couple of minutes to acquire GPS for the next flight?
The original Typhoon H (H480) has the compass on the GPS Board. The GPS board has a small battery, but the battery is best known for maintaining the GPS memory when the main flight battery is not available. I am not aware the small battery plays a roll in maintaining compass calibration data. @h-elsner may know for sure.
Either way, if the GPS battery is dead you would have very long delays at each power up to acquire the GPS signal. If there are no unusual GPS delays, it does not seem the compass issue is a battery problem.

What kind of surface are you launching the H480 from?

Try moving a few feet away and see if the compass warning disappears.

Are you wearing a smart watch or Fitbit while performing the compass calibration? That can cause compass issues.

Normally you don’t have to perform a compass calibration unless you are launching a few hundred miles east or west of where you performed your last calibration.

What really affects the compass is being near ferrous material or power sources like underground power lines.

Compass calibration means to record bias offsets, which are stored in the flash memory of the flight controller. They should be kept as all other parameters also when battery was disconnected.
If you have the Sensor files from FlightLogs on ST16 for different flights, we could take a look on the compass offset values (if it change, how it looks like...).
