ST16 joystick grid?

Hi, what's the purpose, advantage with this "grid". If any? Just to fly straight? Fwd, backwards, sideways?

The purpose of this device is to add additional tension to the movement of the sticks, if a pilot finds the standard amount of tension to be still too "loose". It does not have any bearing on direction of flight. The design as is, increases the tension in all directions.

Also pilots have replaced the standard rubber bands with dental bands for improved durability.
