Am I doing this correct? I have a hitec charger.I set it for storage Lipo 1.0A 11.1V(3S)
is this correct? when I test the batteries after this they read 4.01,4.08,4.02
When I put one in the bird the radio says full charge?

Ed from that way you explained the battery would be fully charged. Fully charged they average 12.5 volts. Now you said the cells read 4.01,4.08,4.02 when added together that's 12.11 volts so the battery is still fully charged. I don't know the details of your charger but maybe you missed a step.

I found out the charger takes a long time to put a fully charge battery
in storage

hi
i have the same hitech charger
yes it takes a long time for a fully charged (5200 Mah ) battery to be discharged to storage level , your hitech charger only discharges ( storage mode ) at 1amp .
what i use is a 12 volt car light bulb and a S-8S 2 in1 RC Lipo Battery Led Voltage Meter Tester Buzzer Alarm

i just set the alarm to 3.80 . it's a lot faster . make a simple connector from the battery to the light bulb , connect it , then plug the Lipo Battery Led Voltage Meter to the 4 prong connector pigtail from your battery . the alarm will let you know when you discharge the battery to 3.80 .
