I'm sure nobody noticed, but I haven't been here, or done any droning for about 2, heading for 3 years now, as my interest in that hobby got rather subsumed by EUCs, and I was getting increasingly depressed about the constantly changing and increasing UK rules we had to comply with together with more and more places being anti-drone and putting signs up everywhere forbidding flight. Eventually, all the pre-flight checks and admin and these endless prohibitions led me to leave my beloved H in the box, where it has remained since, except those few times when I go and look at it forlornly and remember how I used to love it before it all became such a constantly uphill battle...

But now the situation in the UK has changed again, and now we have much more reasonable rules about flying if you can only get under 250g. And whereas previously I just couldn't get the sort of camera quality I wanted in that sort of package, that has changed these days, and I find myself very tempted back into the hobby with something like a DJI mini 4 Pro. I know, I know, Blasphemy if you are firmly team Yuneec, but as much as I want to be, in those last few flights my H was giving me several reasons to worry that just wouldn't be there with a smaller DJI. Anyway, not here to debate the why's and wherefore's of all that, I am just deciding what to do with my H...

Does anyone still fly these things ? Would anyone want it as a whole package if I advertised it (here initially!) and what would be a reasonable price these days for one of those ? (still in its nice box / bag, undamaged, 3 Yuneec batteries, all very old and probably not up to much, and all the typical accessories.

Or would it be helpful, together, or separately, to any of you guys for spares ?

Just trying to gauge the lay of the land really..

Cheers guys

The best I could suggest is to open eBay, do a search for Typhoon H. When the search comes up, scroll way down in the left margin to the "Show Only" section and select "Completed Items". The items will switch to the list of recently completed items, both sold and failed to sell.
  • The items with the sales price in green sold at the displayed value.
  • If the sales price is both green and crossed out, it sold, but at some value other than the displayed value.
  • If the sales price is in black, it did not sell.
Between items in green and black, you can get a fair idea of how things might sell in your region.

Breaking it down is always going to be a gamble. The total potential is much greater when sold piece by piece. The reality is that the sales may dribble in over a long period of time, and some items will never sell. In a worst-case scenario, you may sell one critical component, then none other. Then you can't sell the remainder as an operational kit. The choice is based on how much patience and risk tolerance you have related to the sale.

Thank you - didn't know you could view completed items there, so that was useful. One like mine went for 350 quid the other day, which was a bit more than I thought.
Assuming I sold it, I would say it gave me very good value for the amount of time I spent flying it and the amount of joy it gave me whilst it was still reliable and trustworthy.

I'm in a similar position with an old H which I haven't used for over two years. I use drones for roof surveys mainly but the H has become redundant due to the better quality cameras and freedom of use of the Mini's now available. I still use a couple of H520's for mapping sites though, and photography.
So what to do with the H? I have considered donating it to engineering students somewhere as I doubt that I would get much for it elsewhere.

I have purchased a potensic atom which is highly impressive and I like it over the mini. The video is terrific. Now that i said that I flew my h a few days ago and I realize how terrific the h really is in comparison. Plus after 3 eye procedures I appreciate it even more. The st 16 is also another reason I love it, you can see everything even with aging eyes so I hope you can find another one. Plus you don't need a **** phone!!

Yes. I find it quite difficult to let these things go. And more so because it hasn't died some dramatic death rendering it bin fodder. In fact the last few times I flew it for the majority of the time it was still doing quite well. But I have trust issues with a) batteries that old and b) GPS hold / drift in the H which sometimes became quite stressful to manage, which wasn't really the experience I was looking for in flying cameras, especially if half your footage was gonna go squiffy. I never managed to fully resolve that weird flickering I had in half my shots, despite years of me, helpful people here and Yuneec themselves trying... ah well; you can't win every time, and I don't forget that the H gave me 3 solid years of wonderful flying time, and in the moments where it was all trustworthy and working reliably it did a magnificent job of resisting our British winds and mostly staying where it was put ! And it never flew off on me once !

But, with the independent gimbal and foldable landing gear features it remains a marvellous bit of design and hardware (for the time) I almost want to keep hold of just to keep a small bit of UAV history with me. But by the same token I would be much happier if it could find a new home with someone who had the time / expertise and patience to deal with its eccentricities and still fly it, or if it could find a home with someone who has just dropped their gimbal in the sea and needs another one ! Perhaps there is a specialised 'museum of unmanned flight' somewhere that doesn't already have one !

Gotta say I am looking forward to the Mini 4's imminent arrival. Probably the biggest factor in luring me back into the hobby was the change in class to allow it to freely operate over buildings and walkers etc and in a lot of the residential /commercial areas that were unavailable legally before, and also its massive portability - I can EUC it to the top of a very big hill, and fly it from there without carrying that big, destabilising H box on my back ! But I just know I'm gonna be struggling a boatload more with wind ;)

That too is becoming more of a worry for me. I'm already needing reading glasses for typical controller distance whilst my eyes are doing OK at far distances still, something that will be more of a problem with a much smaller UAV. And I can't do additional lights without bumping it over the magic 250g ! Perhaps the navi-light underneath it will help - and can be set to always on I am told...

But I don't like that at 51 years old I already have to perch reading glasses at the end of my nose like Professor Heinz Wolff off the Great Egg Race (anyone remember that ?!) so I get all the right things in focus looking at the craft OR the controller !

I say Keep it... You won't find a Better Drone for the Price...The Typhoon H will be a Collectors Item... Hard to say when, but it will...;)

Well, it would seem that after a rocky start (delivery driver delivered it to some random house 500 ft away and then falsified my signature!) my Mini4 has arrived !

So I guess I won't be hanging out here much for this next part of the flying adventures. But I will keep my account here if I may - you are all a great bunch of people, and it has been wonderful to be part of this excellent community while I was flying the H. Thank you all for the help, the conversation, the advice and generally lovely time I had here !

See you around guys, or when my MP4 gets blown into the sea, and I come back to the H with my tail between my legs :)

Will see you in MavicPilots forum then! I’m a moderator there also, but it is less well behaved than this forum. Just keep your cool and use the Ignore button for the intrusive types that get under your skin (wish I could use it).

Indeed you shall ! :) Bound to be a bit crazier over there - there's so many of 'em !

If it still flies than you might want to reconsider and keep it. There isn't anything out there that I know of as fun as the h!!
It seems at least on this side of the pond that dji is banned or it isn't banned or? Can't get a grasp on what's what. I have the original mini and it came as promised buy but the potensic atom gives you more bang for the lb.

Hey Klaw

Not sure - maybe 300 quid or so including every accessory I have for it, and there's quite a few !
There are a few things you should know about it before considering.

1. It has never been properly crashed, though it has had a few hard landings caused by the weird **** the compass / altimeter setup occasionally do.
2. All 4 battery packs are very old, and in various states of trustability. I couldn't guarantee much in the way in the way of flight times - toward the end of my flyings I was getting between 4 and 6 mins per pack.
3. The camera does intermittent flickering, not visible in some shots, but ruinous in others. Many have tried to solve this, including Yuneec - and nobody can apparently.
4. I have reason to doubt both compass and barometer, which sometimes exhibit weird behaviour. Not usually flight disruptive, but disconcerting.
5. The controller sticks can be unreliable / sticky and need constant checking in stick monitor to ensure they are working at the start of every flight session. If they ever go dodgy in flight that is DEFINITEY flight -disruptive !

Surely some of that has got to put you off ?!

do you want to let yours go for 250 to 700 dollars for your whole package as that is what they are going for on ebay and I dont see them moving. if batteries are your only issue they sell (not sure where I bought mine I have had it for so long and it allows me to fly with any stick or bar batteries and can easily convert back) but I dont think you would want to as I now fly with larger capacity batteries for half or better than the originals. I still love my typhoon h and if I ever get my 3 d printers figured out I will be selling replacement parts for typhoon h plastic parts only but that is what breaks the most and I have a complete typhoon h for modeling from. mine is still great to fly I just fly line of sight and put a package drop system I bought on line and have a great time trying to bomb people with water balloons during water balloon wars. you gotta try water ballooon fights with your drones as the throwers and you as the target. I can only use my typhoon h for this as I mount my dropper where my camera goes. 100 feet is the range for this but you should see the size of the balloons i can lift and drop!
