I fully agree with you, what we have is simply amazing for the price paid. Unfortunately many do not recognize the potential for components to fail. Lacking that understanding they unwittingly place the aircraft and themselves in situations that could end up a catastrophe.
Even the larger, more sophisticated military stuff still experience things like GPS failures. Look at the RQ-170 that was captured by Iran as a visible example. That escapade generated a massive change in military GPS systems, but it's still not perfect.
OTOH, as customers demand improved reliability the pressure will remain on suppliers to design and make better components to keep manufacturers buying from them.
