Return home too far from take off point

I did a test for return to home for both my Typhoon H and my Inspire 1 yesterday. And I was quite shocked because H landed too far from the take-off point. I did not have a measuring tool, but it did land 12 or more steps away (my normal walking steps). I was so sure it was going to beat the Inspire in many ways, but it failed this time badly. Does anybody know how to fix this?

A bit more research in this forum and you would have found the answer quickly. The H does not use the takeoff point for the home point. The ST16 is always home. When you select Home on the controller, the H will fly back to the ST16 and land 10-15 from the controller "in the line of flight". In other words, if you flew to the left after take off, the H will land 10-15' to the left of the controller.

The clear advantage of this feature is to allow you to move when flying. You can jump in a golf cart, bicycle or atv and travel 4000' while flying. When you land using Home you don't have to drive back to the takeoff point.

I suggest you try again and edit your video to reflect the way the H is designed rather than the way the Inspire is designed.

Pardon me. I started with the DJI so probably that is why I stupidly assume that same standard is being used. Thanks. I will have to do the retest then.

You have done some nice work on your videos. I'm anxious to see what you come up with. I did notice in one of your videos you had a problem with the compass. Many people have experienced this anomaly and it could be from a bad compass or simply a localized problem from ground influence. However, if you climb above 50' the issue seems to disappear. That would seem to indicate ground influence. You might give that a try if you run into this situation again.

Thanks for the encouragement Steve. I figured the same when I did a recalibration and tried different locations. Some areas are actually affecting the compass somehow. In other, it was really steady. And you are right, If I climb up, the interference just vanishes.

Again, pardon my ignorance. Sometimes I am overzealous to do things with the very little time I have, and I fail to do some research first.. My deep gratitude.

You're not the only one on Youtube to find fault with the Home function based on DJI's scheme. I've seen several that don't understand the difference so don't beat yourself on this one.

Yes, I was talking with my young nephew,his family are living in Singapore and his friend at college just bought a brand new DJI Mavic Pro bundle and extras $2 k + and went to an island and flew it then when it came time to go home they took off in the boat and then flew the Mavic to get some leaving shots and kept taking videos and hit the Return to Home to finish off the day when they noticed that the Mavic was heading back to where they took off from in the boat out in the water ,by the time they got close enough it was going down in the water never to be used again. The H comes to the St16 and when it gets close turn it back to Angle mode and hand catch at the rear boat deck. No swimming for Typhoon H . That is one great feature of the Yuneec system . Only very young and a lot to learn Dr Delta. And like most young kids only read the instructions when something goes wrong. I had to explain that to my young nephew, with a demonstration at the park. He and his Mavic took of with me and the H on one end of the park and a slow walk to 800 meters away and said return to home . And he was in total disbelief that it went back to where he took off from and my H came back to near me. I showed him on the Webb page manual for the Mavic and now understands why they would not give his friend a new Mavic which they said was a fly away. Expensive lesson for the mates father. Hi Dr Delta,
My relocating the GPS in the H is coming along very well. Looking for some mini 6 pin board connectors and should have it ready for a test fly in a couple of days . Interesting to see if it is any better with hover and stability. PatR was saying that the GPS units are good on DIY drones ,when you can place them away from electronic interference and heat . It would be nice though if Yuneec made dynamic RTL optional. Personally I don't like it in most instances as I take off for example from a beach. A forced RTL is automatic submarine launch.

I am glad he didn't do a Search as I and some others would not have learned this information.
