After many flights over the ocean and yes even over this same lake. Sadly the Typhoon G went into the
lake never to return again.

My last successful flight was over Carmel California beach.

I tried a flight near Los Gatos - Lexington reservoir this afternoon.
Probably 10 MPH headwinds up a canyon where the *** is.

I had forgotten I was in slow turtle mode on the controller. Took off without incident.
Climbed out over the lake.

The figured the battery was not good and started back.
Slow decent.
And then I had it almost down and figured - well what the heck.
11.2 V on the meter of battery - fly it low over the lake.

Out it flew to the middle of the lake.
And the flight box was shaking.
I could not bring it up and back.

I was able to get it to go right - towards shore. But I could not gain elevation.

It went into the water while going right at a slight angle.
and I saw the splach.
The control shook once more.
and that was it.

It was way out there.

When I had it apart I should have put airbags in some of the hollow points.

So Hero4 gone
And Typhoon G gone.
The Typhoon was beat to crap as I had crashed it many times.

I have another Typhoon G in the garage in a box supposedly but I can't find it.

I am going to post a bunch of parts on eBay such as a Typhoon G body.
and motors.
and all sorts of parts.

Nearly two years of fun while it lasted.
I can't see buying a new Hero 4 now.

Sad to read about, but a clearly pilot error among so many others.

When you can buy a Q500 4K for around $600 why would anyone buy a separate camera for a quadcopter?

To the OP, that sucks. Could you have put it in 'rabbit' mode to gain some speed and get it out of there? I personally would never fly over a lake unless I had a full charge on the battery and would always bring it back once I hit around 11.3v.

nice video , the one thing i notice is that no one is worried or freaked out about you flying over head and you invading their privacy on a public beach . the people around you when landing seem like don't know there is a drone landing right behind them , nice place to fly .

Flash, sorry for your loss. I do a lot of flying over water and have a "Getterback" Rod Recovery system on my H. Weighs less than an ounce and costs 15.00 bucks. Haven't had to use it but it does give a little piece of mind for any flights at risk of going in. I figure if it goes in and I can get it back, I'll have a spare parts bin for my next H

That was the best video of my two years owning the Typhoon G.
And yes - the drone just came right down at the beach.
I don't think anyone was aware of it.

To the fellow regarding the separate cam - You can't get much better 4K than that Hero4 in my opinion.

Pilot error - yes. But error was not being fully serious about the flight. I had a battery of unknown quality and I had been charging the battery in the back of the car.

The battery was one of those WHITE batteries which I do not recommend.
All my batteries are probably 2 years old now. Had I put in a fresh new battery fully charged
I would never have dropped the drone in the lake.

The first few months I had it I must have crashed it 7 times. And rebuilt it a few times.

Then I did not crash any more.

I would urge all of you to preflight very carefully.
New battery at full charge.

I had not flown enough to even know that 11.2 volts was low.
I had forgotten all of this.
And I had forgotten that HOME might have saved me.

I was not in the pilot mindset.

I had great unbreakable props on the drone too.
The Hero4 had a battery leakage problem.
The Typhoon G also could not transmit video back to the hand held station.
That got blown out when I left the hero plugged in. I am not sure if the hero4
video out got blown up. Or the transmitter on the Typhoon G got fried.

I took that beach video with no video on my screen. Just winged it.

I found my brand new Typhoon G in a closet.
Not sure if I will break it out and fly it.
Or just sell it.

The battery in that will be two years old too.

Maybe I will get my $599 back as I don't think you can even buy Typhoon G's now.
The only person who would buy it would be someone who crashed their Typhoon G
and who really misses it.

The drone I dropped in the lake had JB Weld all over it.

the memories:

Getting to know Yuneec Typhoon G - YouTube

Thanks Ty Pilot.
If I ever get a drone again I will put those on!
That would have saved it.

I have a spare Typhoon G which I finally located in a hallway closet! But no Hero4 cam now.

May just sell the Typhoon G which is brand new and all the parts.
Wait a year or so for the prices to fall even further.

Fresh water lake. So it might have been OK if I had dried all the parts off.
Hard to tell.

I was not flying much anymore. And that is part of the problem.

Typhoon G brand new does not seem to be worth much.
$349? I am seeing them going for on eBay. Sigh.

I posted my new drone and a billion parts on the classified section of this BB.

Maybe I will just keep the parts and the new drone.
Get a cam and fly again.

Wasted enough time putting up eBay Buy it now.

I have so many parts I could assemble most of a Typhoon G just from the parts.
I would need the CPU, the radio and the GPS. I have the spare body, the motors and the props galore.

But I have spent enough time fixing crashed Typhoon G's.
